For more than 75 years, Boulder Canyon Golf Club has hosted players who live and vacation in the Black Hills of South Dakota. After installing new management, the course saw significant improvements to the grounds and facilities. Management’s next goal was to expand the number of bookings made by groups, non-members, and out-of-town visitors. To accomplish this, BCGC hired Augmental and web designer Twwist Creative to revamp its website.

As part of this project, Augmental:

Developed a unique selling proposition for Boulder Canyon Golf Club. The existing site promoted BCGC’s beautiful natural setting and amenities, much like other competitors in the area. Through research and multiple customer interviews, Augmental identified another competitive advantage: people golf at Boulder Canyon because the experience is more fun and relaxed. Interviewees pointed to a number of factors such as the culture, course design, close proximity to local entertainment, and welcoming attitude towards groups. Augmental developed this concept into the tagline: “Golf at Boulder Canyon — Where Everybody Plays.”

Recommended new architecture and webpage structure. Each page now starts with a call to action that’s relevant to where the user is in the decision-making process. It then builds on that offer, addressing pain-points and showing how BCGC delivers on its promises. The copy uses a “you” voice and imagery that helps prospects envision their golf outing. The layout is less dense, more attractive, and easier to follow.

Wrote copy for the majority of the website and optimized the site for search. Augmental researched and recommended new pages to target out-of-town visitors and group events. SEO focused on different categories of visitors, such as bachelor parties, as well keyword-focused area guides to attract visitors from nearby cities.

The result is a website that is more visible in search results and that converts visitors more effectively. Early in the relaunch, BCGC has already seen a significant increase in booked events and tee times, which it credits to the new design, copy, and approach to SEO.

To achieve this objective, Augmental:

Performed research and client interviews. This analysis allowed Augmental to identify areas for improving the site.

Worked in partnership with D.Hill Design to recommended changes to the site’s structure, user experience, and messaging. This included simplifying navigation to encourage conversion.

Used a problem-agitation-solution approach to rewrite the homepage. Augmental re-centered the content to make the website visitor the “hero” of the story.

Re-wrote the “Services” webpage and other site pages to clarify what clients can expect and to demonstrate the value of the consultancy’s offerings.

Wrote new case studies to add authority and trustworthiness to the consultancy.
