“User Inyerface” is an online game that teaches you about bad web design by making you slog through it. It’s a funny, frustrating experience.
After finishing the game, I came away with a better appreciation for the tacit agreements we’ve all made about communicating digitally. Just starting the game requires you to forget everything you know about underlined links and buttons.
From a writing standpoint, there are other lessons. Guide people with clear instructions. Provide information when and where it’s needed. Reduce friction that prevents action.
