TED Talker Jia Jang spent weeks trying to desensitize himself to the pain of “no” through a series of exercises. In this example, the one that spoke most to me, he asks Five Guys for a refill on his burger.
Obviously, that’s… not how it’s done.
However, Jia considered each “no” a success. Every attempt, no matter how silly, furthered his goal of growing more comfortable with creative risk. In the endeavoring, I think he found moments of ingenuity. No matter what you might think about his approach, it was certainly memorable.
This mindset is a great example for us all. Try it out. The worst they can do is say “no.”
